The Medicine of Horses
When people try and express horse medicine, they often falter. It’s intangible.
The experience grows the longer you move into it, like a good relationship, like rising in love.
Horses are teachers and guides. They see us, exactly how we are, and do not accept inauthentic behavior. What does this mean?
Horses won’t come near us if they sense a disconnect in who we are being. It’s as simple as that. We all need this medicine. We all can benefit from this healing.
Horses see us, as we are, unfiltered.
They come to us as they are, and they release rapidly, repeatedly.
Horses process for us what we are going through. Their energy bubble extends 30 feet. Ours extends 10. So, by even being 40 feet away, there is still ability to feel and connect.
As we enter into their presence, we reconnect, re-embody ourselves, re-inhabit our beings, and as we do this, the horses respond.
We, in turn, get that feedback. Because there is a giant 1200 plus animal lumbering slowly towards us. Hard to ignore.
And sometimes it’s the only way. There are parts of our own healing that we are very dense to. I am this way. So easy to see in others, so difficult to pin down in myself. But, the horses see it, and they teach you to see it too.
This weekend I met and worked with four horses; Joe, Danu, Chiron and Storm. Each has its own medicine, and was drawn to me or another member of the group for healing that they needed.
The response was sometimes immediate. Tears welling up and spilling over that could be felt throughout the pasture. Some of the healing came as downloads, quick as a flash. Sometimes the tears came later.
Embodiement is our body taking over. We can embody anything; hatred, cruelty, trauma, repression, disgust, softness, kindness, self-ownership, lightness, healing.
Embodiment with horses can be learned as soon as you step into their presence. Because if you aren’t in your body, if you aren’t showing up with and for yourself; the horses will tell you.
Again, you have a giant animal directly showing you exactly what you are missing.
And it’s subtle, and there is a learning curve. They show by their body posture, their ears, swish of their tails, if they are watching or chewing, or have their ass to you. They show you by how they are interacting with one another, their spacing, how they move together.
Here are a few of my take aways:
We are in our heads entirely too much. Moving into our body helps us to trust, to honor our boundaries, the timing of our work in the world, our businesses and our relationships.
Imbalanced masculine and feminine energy within the home is a huge source os stress.
When we move from an embodied place, we can get a lot of shit done. It’s faster, but not frantic, graceful even. It flows without push.
Stuffing emotions is one of the biggest disservices we can do ourselves. It impacts our entire body, and over time will manifest as physical symptoms, illness and disease.
Have a backbone. Stand up for yourself, what you believe in; within the home, within relationships, parenting, at your job, within your business- all over the place. Have a backbone, don’t be afraid to set the boundary. Be clear and don’t back down.
I am greatly looking forward to getting all the horse medicine I can get. Questions about my experience? You can reach out to me via email. Interest in working with these horses? Reach out to Rebecca T Dickson, she works both virtually and in person with this incredible horse medicine.
